Comics is BACK This September, Chaos! Comics is resurrected in a fitting place: Devils Due Publishing. Together, the publishing partners will bring back quite a few of the long-thought-dead characters and unleash them on the living world, starting with EVIL ERNIE. It all begins when Evil Ernie #1 debuts in September, in a 4-issue series. Other titles will join the fray shortly thereafter. Scripting the new Evil Ernie series will be industry veteran, Alan Grant, with art by Tommy Castillo. Im very excited about the chance to help revive these characters, said Josh Blaylock, president of Devils Due. Youre talking about Chaos! Comics, the place where darkness dwelled for nearly 10 years. These characters are classics and Im proud to have them under the DDP banner. "It's time for Chaos! to reign once again! exulted Andy Eaton, President at Chaos! Comics. I met Tommy Castillo at WizardWorld Chicago. He has a wicked sense of humor to say the least. The Evil Ernie art looked great on the preview flyer. Looking forward to Purgatory and Chasity also.

It's just a publisher making money off the name and I want nothing to do with it. It would be nice to have all the old titles back. But not tanted like this. Chaos was great becuse it was run by the guy that made the charecters. He care about what happened to his creations. With this new publisher who knowes what will happen. I see new writers and artists ever six months. Wounder how long it will be before the clones show up lol! (sorry for the spelling it's late her and i don't have time to fix it.)

Posts: 278 (08/13/05 10:16:47) Local user Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Extending that argument, Chaos! went downhill the moment Steven Hughes - the (retrospectively) more inspirational creator of the characters - died, leaving Brian on his own. It was the overall plot that then went to pot, in spite of Brian being a (mostly non-practising by then) writer. The case for Chaos! not being the same without Brian is too easily overstated: his comics for Avatar - not including the barely-started Classic Lady Death - don't have the same brilliance they had, until Steven's death, for Chaos (though that's also largely due to the tatty Avatar artwork.) The CG stuff couldn't even begin to be 'Chaotic' on account of their all-ages publishing policy, of course. As for Brian running the company, after the financial fate of Chaos! and its other creators, all I'd better say is that his not doing so gives the characters a better chance of survival. For me, it's a matter of whether anyone can make Steven's characters live again, in a manner I'd want to keep buying. It's worth a try provided somebody's on hand who knows enough (or reads enough back-issues) to keep his spirit alive - I understand there is. For me, Brian failed to do so convincingly, in spite of overseeing some very decent stuff after Armageddon. Sworn, bloody! Xetal

Posts: 195 (08/14/05 21:33:18) King Fiend Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	(as usual) very well said X i don't think anyone can say for sure wheather Steven's untimely death effected the future of Chaos! but it sure ties in doesn't it? being friends with both BP and Steven i got both sides of the story... ideas from both, and not ever wanting to pick sides i took what i heard and kept it to myself.... in the end i think the demise of "classic" Chaos! boils down to two things: the bad $$ managment that has all ready been talked about and the product not selling because of whatEVER the reason.... crappy product, crappy art, crappy story .. the only thing that matters was SALES which didn't happen... so what will be interesting to watch is the sales on the new stuff both "new" Chaos and the avatar LD... i know i won't buy what i DON'T like, and just because it says "Chaos!" or "Lady Death" does not mean i'm going to plop down my hard earned $$ for it... a lesson i learned from my good friend Judy years ago... that seems to be the best way to oppose or support comics and comic book related products... with the all mighty dollar spend wisely Fiends!! dave CFPrez

That's like saying that Marvel shouldn't publish Fantastic Four, Spiderman, X-men, etc. because he's not writing them anymore. Brian Pulida was awesome for the first four or five years of Chaos! But when he stopped writing the stories to run the company it all went to @#%$. The stories were craptacular. A lot of the art was craptacular. They didn't have many good creators on their books at the time and I had to drop all the titles because they were getting terrible. I am glad that some new blood is potentially going to be breathing life into these characters again. I hope they have the right talent assigned to the new books because I want to read lots of stories featuring them.

Comics. I loved them. So I am looking forward to the new ones. I just read Purgatori # 1 an advance copy and it was great. As good as it used to be. It is wonderful to have her back. Richard Vasseur

I enjoyed it and I'll buy the rest of the arc at least. Chaos! it's not - quite. Although it's dangerous to be too dogmatic after one issue, a lot of the comic feels right, but rather in the way of EE Returns: he's not quite the same guy. But then what else can one expect? The violence is well up to standard, but there's a rather sadistic torture theme that's new (and yet to be explained EE's not letting the dead come back as zombies at the moment (also to be explained and there's a Lady (but not LD) evidently inspiring him. I'm not so impressed with the artwork. It's painted rather than inked and colored as my preference would be (but I think I'm just old-fashioned that way.) This is effective in the dream sequence; but as usual it's much harder to paint action than to ink it. The artist does a much better job than in the Hack/Slash crossover (not hard, come to think of it) and by the end of the comic EE's face looks less like the animated pumpkin it reminded me of in the preview of the first pages. I think it's a praiseworthy effort so far, but it's too early to say whether it'll take the same hold on me that the Chaos! EE did. It deserves the rest of this arc to do so, however. Sworn, bloody!
